This conversion doesn&#8217;t require reinstalling Windows or losing your data. In this guide, we&#8217;ll show you how to do it step by step using the built-in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.veeble.com\/kb\/how-to-convert-mbr-disk-to-gpt\/\">MBR2GPT<\/a> tool. Then changing the boot mode in BIOS\/UEFI firmware from Legacy BIOS to UEFI. While the process is generally safe if it is done exactly as per this blog, anyway, it is always good to be cautious and <strong>backup your data<\/strong> before doing it.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading has-text-align-center\" id=\"4-steps-to-convert-windows-from-legacy-bios-mbr-partition-to-uefi-gpt-partition\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">4 Steps to Convert Windows From Legacy BIOS (MBR Partition) to UEFI (GPT Partition)<\/span><\/h2>\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"step-1-verify-the-current-bios-and-partition-style\">Step 1: Verify the Current BIOS and Partition Style<\/h4>\n\n\n<p>To confirm your system uses Legacy BIOS and an MBR partition:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol start=\"1\" class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Press <strong>Win + S<\/strong> and type <strong>System Information<\/strong>. Open it.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Look for the entry <strong>BIOS Mode<\/strong>. If it says <strong>Master Boot Record (MBR)<\/strong>, you&#8217;re using an MBR partition.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-gallery has-nested-images columns-default is-cropped wp-block-gallery-3 is-layout-flex wp-block-gallery-is-layout-flex\">\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.veeble.com\/kb\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/12\/20241227_170539.gif\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1904\" height=\"674\" data-id=\"6260\" src=\"https:\/\/www.veeble.com\/kb\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/12\/20241227_170539.gif\" alt=\"Check the disk partition style before convert from legacy bios to uefi\" class=\"wp-image-6260\"\/><\/a><\/figure>\n<\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"step-2-convert-disk-from-mbr-to-gpt\">Step 2: Convert Disk from MBR to GPT<\/h4>\n\n\n<p>The <strong>MBR2GPT<\/strong> tool will handle this conversion without any data loss.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol start=\"1\" class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Open <strong>Command Prompt<\/strong> in administrator mode.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Press <strong>Win + S<\/strong>, type <strong>cmd<\/strong>, right-click it, and choose <strong>Run as Administrator<\/strong>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Run the following command to validate your disk:<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<pre class=\"wp-block-code\"><code>mbr2gpt \/validate<\/code><\/pre>\n\n\n\n<p>This checks if your disk meets the requirements for conversion.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol start=\"4\" class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Convert the disk to GPT:<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<pre class=\"wp-block-code\"><code>mbr2gpt \/convert \/allowFullOS<\/code><\/pre>\n\n\n\n<p>The <code>\/allowFullOS<\/code> switch lets you convert without booting into Windows PE (Preinstallation Environment).
