The primary reason is the presence of unmovable system files at the end of the partition, which prevents the shrink operation. These unmovable files might include <a href=\"https:\/\/www.techtarget.com\/whatis\/definition\/pagefile\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Page files<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sciencedirect.com\/topics\/computer-science\/hibernation-file\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Hibernate files<\/a>, and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tenforums.com\/backup-restore\/20841-system-protection-restore-files-where-they-stored-win-10-a.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">System restore files<\/a>. To fix an unshrinkable partition, you need to temporarily disable certain features, perform the shrink operation, and then re-enable them.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading has-text-align-center\" id=\"steps-before-unshrinking-partition\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">Steps Before Unshrinking Partition<\/span><\/h2>\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"1-disable-hibernate-file\">1. Disable Paging File<\/h3>\n\n\n<ol start=\"1\" class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Press <strong>Windows + S<\/strong>, type <strong>Performance<\/strong>, and select &#8220;<strong>Adjust the appearance and performance of Windows.<\/strong>&#8220;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Go to the <strong>Advanced<\/strong> tab and click &#8220;<strong>Change<\/strong>&#8221; under Virtual Memory.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Uncheck &#8220;<strong>Automatically manage paging file size for all drives<\/strong>.&#8221;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Select &#8220;<strong>No paging file<\/strong>&#8221; and click &#8220;<strong>Set.<\/strong>&#8220;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Restart your system.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-gallery has-nested-images columns-default is-cropped wp-block-gallery-5 is-layout-flex wp-block-gallery-is-layout-flex\">\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.veeble.com\/kb\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/12\/Performance-monitor-1.gif\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"820\" height=\"318\" data-id=\"6201\" src=\"https:\/\/www.veeble.com\/kb\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/12\/Performance-monitor-1.gif\" alt=\"Disable the paging file in Windows to resolve the issue of the unshrink partition error.\" class=\"wp-image-6201\"\/><\/a><\/figure>\n<\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"3-disable-system-restore\">3.
