The sar\/sysstat<\/a> is a handy and effective tool to monitor your server resource usage, by installing it you will be able to find out the server’s load history, resource usage, etc. The steps to install it on a Ubuntu\/Debian distro are below.<\/p>\n\n\n

Installation of SAR on Ubuntu\/Debian<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n

In a Debian-based server, we install the SAR in the \u201capt-get<\/a>\u201d command.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Step 1<\/strong>: SSH to the server as the root user.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Step 2:<\/strong> Run the below command to install the SAR utility.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

 apt-get install sysstat<\/pre>\n\n\n\n
There is a chance of getting the following error if you are not configured the sysstat properly.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Cannot open \/var\/log\/sysstat\/sa02: No such file or directory\nPlease check if data collecting is enabled in \/etc\/default\/sysstat<\/pre>\n\n\n\n
Fix: Open \u201c\/etc\/default\/sysstat\u201d using your favorite file editor and change ENABLED=\u201dfalse\u201d to ENABLED=\u201dtrue\u201d
Step 3: One more thing to do, is change the collection interval from every 10 minutes to every 2 minutes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Step 4: Restart the service.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
service sysstat restart\nOr\n\/etc\/init.d\/sysstat restart<\/pre>\n\n\n\n
