{"id":353,"date":"2015-05-14T10:03:17","date_gmt":"2015-05-14T10:03:17","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/kb.veeble.org\/?p=353"},"modified":"2025-04-09T14:49:22","modified_gmt":"2025-04-09T09:19:22","slug":"restoring-mysql-database-of-your-website-joomla-via-cpanel","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.veeble.com\/kb\/restoring-mysql-database-of-your-website-joomla-via-cpanel\/","title":{"rendered":"\u201dRestoring Mysql database of  your website \u201d [ Joomla ] via Cpanel"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><span style=\"color: #494949;\"> <span style=\"font-family: Raleway, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\">I<span style=\"color: #333333;\">n case you are using Joomla<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span> for your website and you are managing it using WHM\/Cpanel, for you to restore the<span style=\"color: #494949;\"><span style=\"font-family: Raleway, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\"><span style=\"color: #333333;\"> database of your site, you may follow the steps mentioned below.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"color: #333333;\"> <span style=\"font-family: Consolas, 'Andale Mono', Courier, 'Courier New', monospace;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><span style=\"font-family: Raleway, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\">First, make sure that you have the backup of the database intact, a file with the extension .sql something similar to \u201cyour_database_backup.sql\u201d<\/span><\/span> <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"color: #333333;\"> <\/span><\/p>\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"note-kindly-note-down-the-database-name-username-and-password-that-you-are-going-tonbspcreate-in-the-following-steps-which-are-very-important\"><strong>Note: Kindly note down the Database name, Username, and password that you are<\/strong> <strong>going to create in the following steps which are very important.<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><span style=\"color: #bd4848;\"><span style=\"font-family: Consolas, 'Andale Mono', Courier, 'Courier New', monospace;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\">Open your cPanel dashboard, and open <span style=\"color: #990000;\"><b>My Sql Databases<\/b><\/span> under Databases.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><span style=\"color: #bd4848;\"><span style=\"font-family: Consolas, 'Andale Mono', Courier, 'Courier New', monospace;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\">Under create a new database, type in the name of your database in the space provided and <\/span><\/span><\/span><span style=\"color: #bd4848;\"> <span style=\"font-family: Consolas, 'Andale Mono', Courier, 'Courier New', monospace;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\">CLICK on <span style=\"color: #990000;\"><b>Create Database<\/b><\/span>.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"color: #bd4848;\"> <span style=\"font-family: Consolas, 'Andale Mono', Courier, 'Courier New', monospace;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><span style=\"color: #333333;\"><b>Note: In Cpanel, the prefix will be set automatically. You just need to type in the name&nbsp;<\/b><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><b style=\"font-size: small; font-family: Consolas, 'Andale Mono', Courier, 'Courier New', monospace; line-height: 1.5;\">of the database. ie something like \u201cyourdomain_thedatabasename\u201d.<\/b><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol start=\"3\" class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><span style=\"color: #bd4848;\"><span style=\"font-family: Consolas, 'Andale Mono', Courier, 'Courier New', monospace;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\">Under Add a new user type in the <span style=\"color: #990000;\"><b>username<\/b><\/span><b> <\/b>that you require.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><span style=\"color: #bd4848;\"><span style=\"font-family: Consolas, 'Andale Mono', Courier, 'Courier New', monospace;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\">You may add a password for the user that you are creating, it&#8217;s always advised that you maintain a strong password. Then CLICK on <span style=\"color: #990000;\"><b>Create a new User<\/b><\/span><b>.<\/b><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><span style=\"color: #bd4848;\"><span style=\"font-family: Consolas, 'Andale Mono', Courier, 'Courier New', monospace;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\">Under Add a user to a database, select the new user that we just created from the drop-down and the new database and click on <span style=\"color: #990000;\"><b>Add<\/b><\/span><b>.<\/b><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><span style=\"color: #bd4848;\"><span style=\"font-family: Consolas, 'Andale Mono', Courier, 'Courier New', monospace;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\">That will take you to another page manage user privileges, select All Privileges, and then <\/span><\/span> <span style=\"font-family: Consolas, 'Andale Mono', Courier, 'Courier New', monospace;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\">CLICK on <span style=\"color: #990000;\"><b>Make changes<\/b><\/span><b>.<\/b><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"color: #333333;\"><span style=\"font-family: Raleway, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\">&nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;Thus you have created a database so that you may restore \u201cyour_database_backup.sql\u201d&nbsp;for that Login to your server as root user through the command line, and follow these steps.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><span style=\"color: #bd4848;\"><span style=\"font-family: Consolas, 'Andale Mono', Courier, 'Courier New', monospace;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\">Change your directory to where \u201cyour_database_backup.sql\u201d lies.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><span style=\"color: #bd4848;\"><span style=\"font-family: Consolas, 'Andale Mono', Courier, 'Courier New', monospace;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\">Then execute the following command, <\/span><\/span> <span style=\"font-family: 'Miriam Fixed', monospace;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\">MySQL yourdomain_thedatabasename &lt; your_database_backup.sql<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"color: #bd4848;\"> <span style=\"color: #333333;\"> <span style=\"font-family: Consolas, 'Andale Mono', Courier, 'Courier New', monospace;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><span style=\"font-family: Consolas, 'Andale Mono', Courier, 'Courier New', monospace;\"><b>Note: In the above command \u201cyourdomain_thedatabasename\u201d refers to the new database that you created using cPanel. Thus by executing the above command the backup file \u201cyour_database_backup.sql\u201d is restored to the new database.<\/b><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"color: #333333;\"> <span style=\"font-family: Raleway, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\">Now we need to make changes to the configuration.php file of Joomla to update the changes we made. You can find the configuration.php file under \/home\/youraccount\/public_html\/configuration.php. <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"open-configurationphp-and-make-the-following-changes\">Open configuration.php and make the following changes,<\/h4>\n\n\n<p><span style=\"color: #bd4848;\"><span style=\"font-family: Consolas, 'Andale Mono', Courier, 'Courier New', monospace;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\">&nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;public $user = &#8216;yourdomain_newuser&#8217;;<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"color: #bd4848;\"><span style=\"font-family: Consolas, 'Andale Mono', Courier, 'Courier New', monospace;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\">&nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;public $password = &#8216;newpassword&#8217;;<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>next,<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"color: #bd4848;\"><span style=\"font-family: Consolas, 'Andale Mono', Courier, 'Courier New', monospace;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\">&nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;public $db = &#8216;yourdomain_thedatabasename&#8217;;<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"color: #333333;\"> <span style=\"font-family: Raleway, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\">That&#8217;s pretty much it. The site must load fine. Sometimes you may get a common issue with Joomla<\/span><\/span><\/span> &#8220;Error displaying the error page: Application Instantiation Error&#8221;. This may be due to the following reasons<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"color: #bd4848;\"><span style=\"font-family: Consolas, 'Andale Mono', Courier, 'Courier New', monospace;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\">1. Mismatch between the entries in the configuration.ini file and the actual values in terms of <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"color: #bd4848;\"><span style=\"font-family: Consolas, 'Andale Mono', Courier, 'Courier New', monospace;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\">&nbsp; &nbsp;$user , $password , $db. Confirm the values again.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"color: #bd4848;\"><span style=\"font-family: Consolas, 'Andale Mono', Courier, 'Courier New', monospace;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\">2. Database issues, which can be dealt with by repairing the database from the cPanel.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"color: #bd4848;\"><span style=\"font-family: Consolas, 'Andale Mono', Courier, 'Courier New', monospace;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\">3.
