In case you are using Joomla<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span> for your website and you are managing it using WHM\/Cpanel, for you to restore the database of your site, you may follow the steps mentioned below.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n

First, make sure that you have the backup of the database intact, a file with the extension .sql something similar to \u201cyour_database_backup.sql\u201d<\/span><\/span> <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n

<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n

Note: Kindly note down the Database name, Username, and password that you are<\/strong> going to create in the following steps which are very important.<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n
    \n
  1. Open your cPanel dashboard, and open My Sql Databases<\/b><\/span> under Databases.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/li>\n\n\n\n
  2. Under create a new database, type in the name of your database in the space provided and <\/span><\/span><\/span> CLICK on Create Database<\/b><\/span>.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n

    Note: In Cpanel, the prefix will be set automatically. You just need to type in the name <\/b><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span>of the database. ie something like \u201cyourdomain_thedatabasename\u201d.<\/b><\/p>\n\n\n\n

      \n
    1. Under Add a new user type in the username<\/b><\/span> <\/b>that you require.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/li>\n\n\n\n
    2. You may add a password for the user that you are creating, it’s always advised that you maintain a strong password. Then CLICK on Create a new User<\/b><\/span>.<\/b><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/li>\n\n\n\n
    3. Under Add a user to a database, select the new user that we just created from the drop-down and the new database and click on Add<\/b><\/span>.<\/b><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/li>\n\n\n\n
    4. That will take you to another page manage user privileges, select All Privileges, and then <\/span><\/span> CLICK on Make changes<\/b><\/span>.<\/b><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n

                                   Thus you have created a database so that you may restore \u201cyour_database_backup.sql\u201d for that Login to your server as root user through the command line, and follow these steps.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n

      1. Change your directory to where \u201cyour_database_backup.sql\u201d lies.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/li>\n\n\n\n
      2. Then execute the following command, <\/span><\/span> MySQL yourdomain_thedatabasename < your_database_backup.sql<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n

        Note: In the above command \u201cyourdomain_thedatabasename\u201d refers to the new database that you created using cPanel. Thus by executing the above command the backup file \u201cyour_database_backup.sql\u201d is restored to the new database.<\/b><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n

        Now we need to make changes to the configuration.php file of Joomla to update the changes we made. You can find the configuration.php file under \/home\/youraccount\/public_html\/configuration.php. <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n\n\n

        Open configuration.php and make the following changes,<\/h4>\n\n\n

                         public $user = ‘yourdomain_newuser’;<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n

                         public $password = ‘newpassword’;<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n

        next,<\/p>\n\n\n\n

                         public $db = ‘yourdomain_thedatabasename’;<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n

        That’s pretty much it. The site must load fine. Sometimes you may get a common issue with Joomla<\/span><\/span><\/span> “Error displaying the error page: Application Instantiation Error”. This may be due to the following reasons<\/p>\n\n\n\n

        1. Mismatch between the entries in the configuration.ini file and the actual values in terms of <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n

           $user , $password , $db. Confirm the values again.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n

        2. Database issues, which can be dealt with by repairing the database from the cPanel.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n

        3. Or sometimes the value \u201c public $dbtype = ‘mysqli’ \u201c in configuration.ini, try changing <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n

           the value to \u201c public $dbtype = ‘mysql’ \u201c <\/span><\/span><\/span>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

        This should fix most of the cases that show an <\/span><\/span><\/span>\u201cApplication Instantiation error\u201d<\/b><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n
